Service Plan vs Maintenance Plan

How does the General Motors Service Plan differ from the Maintenance Plan? We have put together a useful comparison that gives you a clear overview of what each plan offers. Please note that both plans are provided as an optional, value-added service.

Service Plan

  • The Service Plan begins on the purchase date of the new vehicle, continuing for the duration or mileage, whichever occurs first.
  • The Warranty of 5 years/120, 000km will not be affected by the Service Plan.
  • The Driver Support Plan (Roadside Assistance) is provided on all GMSA vehicles for the warranty duration and gets extended to 5 years or 120, 000km for vehicles that have the 5 year/90, 000km or 5 year/120, 000km Service Plans.

What is included in the Service Plan?

Standard vehicle services as per Service Schedule are available at no cost. Maintenance and wear and tear parts are not included in this plan. Standard vehicle services covered for the duration or mileage of the plan include:

  • 'R – Replace’ items as per Service Schedule;
  • Air-conditioner service;
  • Parts and service labour;
  • Lubricants and coolant;
  • Consumables;
  • Roadside Assistance.

What is not included in the Complete Service Plan?

  • Items not under warranty;
  • Friction parts, such as brake pads, brake disks, clutches, etc;
  • Shocks;
  • Exhaust systems;
  • Bulbs, headlamps, tail light bulbs;
  • Tyres, wheel alignment, wheel balancing and punctures;
  • Accidents or irregular rust damage;
  • Car phones and related accessories;
  • Vehicle tracking, anti-hijacking or similar devices;
  • Rust inspection and prevention;
  • Paint, trim and upholstery repairs, cleaning and related treatments;
  • Cleaning and valet services;
  • Fuel, top-up fluids and fuel or oil additives;
  • Windscreens, windows, headlights, tail-lights, lenses and other plastic or glass;
  • Items or part missing from vehicle;
  • Repairs and maintenance of the vehicle caused by error, negligence, abuse and/or outside interference;
  • Repairs caused by failure to comply with obligations and warranties, including specific repairs required as a result of failing to service within the specified service intervals and limits;
  • Servicing at unauthorised dealers;
  • Replacement or upgrade of CD-ROM and satellite navigation systems;
  • Damaged wheels;
  • Repairs and maintenance relating to modifications, tuning, upgrading and all after-sale accessories;
  • Maintenance related repairs;
  • Upgrades, such as trim, stone chips and detailing.

What is included in the Maintenance plan?

  • Shock absorbers;
  • Exhaust systems;
  • Maintenance parts;
  • Friction parts, such as brakes and clutch that are replaced due to wear and tear;
  • Parts and service labour;
  • Lubricants and coolant
  • Consumables;
  • Roadside Assistance.

What is not included in the Complete Maintenance Plan?

  • Items not under warranty;
  • Tyres, wheel alignment, wheel balancing and puncture repairs;
  • Rust inspection and treatment;
  • Accident and irregular rust repairs;
  • Windscreens, windows, headlights, tail-lights, lenses and other plastic or glass;
  • Wheel repair;
  • Paint, trim and upholstery repairs, cleaning and treatments;
  • Car phones and related accessories;
  • Vehicle tracking, anti-hijacking or similar devices;
  • Cleaning and valet services;
  • Fuel, top-up fluids and any fuel or oil additives
  • Item or parts missing from the vehicle;
  • Repairs and maintenance caused by driver/owner error, negligence, abuse and/or outside interference;
  • Repairs caused by failure to comply with the obligations and warranties, including repairs caused by failure to service the vehicle within the specified service intervals and limits;
  • Service and maintenance at unauthorised dealers, except in pre-arranged emergency situations;
  • Replacement or upgrade of CD-ROM, and satellite navigation systems;
  • Repairs and maintenance related to modifying, tuning, upgrading and accessories;
  • Repairs and maintenance not authorised by Maintenance Plan;
  • Non-maintenance repairs such as trim or detailing;
  • Maintenance or repair caused by driving in severe or abnormal conditions.
